Egg Tarts from Waitrose

Hello all.... Still alive... post nights 2 days of break and I am back to back shift for 2 days and nights for 6 more days....

ANyway I shall clear some of the dust from this blog with this post about EGG TARTS!!!

I don't usually get so excited about them. Its not a must order for me at dim sum restaurants but the reason why I decided to blog about this is because.....

I found this great offer of 2 egg tarts for 69 p, 4 for 139p at Waitrose... ITs not even on OFFER and its already so cheap!!!...

At least I wont have to go all the way to Chinatown now to get an egg tart fix..

Taste wise it almost resembles the Chinese version but as u can see its much less jaundice in colour compared to its Asian cousin LOL..

This batch that I bought though din taste as great as the first batch.. Somehow it tasted more egg whitish and less sweet..

Nevertheless... I still quite enjoy them.. YUM YUM !!

Since its so cheap , get a batch the next time you drop by Waitrose, Byres Road

Daniel's Bistro

We celebrated YR's birthday at Daniel's Bistro located along the famous Edinburgh restaurant row set within the commercial quay area. The restaurant is open by Daniel Vencker as clearly stated on the signboard. The main food theme here is French Scottish.. which I normally take it as either as French food cooked by a Scot or French food done using Scottish produce.

We went for the 2 course menu at 16.85 or 3 courses for 18.86 pounds.... For starters, I decided to have the classic french soup.. I wouldn't know what an authentic one would have tasted like despite having been to France twice. My soup's flavour was pleasantly filled with onion essence but what I did not like was the level of acidity.. A wee bit too sour Wee?

One of the other appetizers on the table. Escargot. Do u like the taste of grass?

Le Cassoulet, An extremely hearty casserole consisting of mixed beans, Duck, pork shank, garlic and Toulouse Sausages. The meat combination worked out in the end and I just love the beans!!.

Daniel's celebrated hearty Beef Bourguignon Casserole, Very tender cubes of beef. I don't normally order beef stews cos they are relatively easy to cook..

Lastly, my mix grill of lamb chop and sausages accompanied by ratatouille and mash potato. I wonder what went into the potato mash. It was creamily delicious. The lamp was perfectly cooked although I wasn't too impressed by the sausages.

We din't have desserts cos we had this... ... The dessert menu looks delixciting!!!

So there we go, a French restaurant in Edinburgh for a day.

Persian Paradise, Glasgow

Grilled meats, curries, stews, lamb, chicken beef.... and Persian Food.... Step inside this restaurant and I guarantee you will feel like you are in a Persian restaurant.

Let's see what they have to offer for starters... Kashke Bademjan. A warm plate of fried aubergine, walnut with fried onions, herbs and spices and some.....Homous ???
Order some Lavesh naan to go with it. Unlike the Indian versions, Naan's here are considerably thinner with a nice floury fragrance.

The Mains!!.... Kebab Shishlik... Mince lamb skewer

The Paradise Special Kebab. A skewer of tender dices of boneless chicken fillet wrapped with tender fillet marinated in saffron and olive oil.

Food's pretty tasty here. However the portions just overly huge. The problem with that is that by the time you get to the last third of your skewer, its gone colder and the meat's tougher. That aside, the flavours are good, the fresh salads act as a great palate cleanser and .... I just love the grilled tomato and chilli.

To my knowledge, there are 2 Persian Restaurants in the West End. Why don't you try both and see which one suits your taste better.
