Maggi Goreng, Upper Thomson

We were still hungry after the wine and fine food so we ended up in Upper Thomson Road. THere's alot to eat despite the time and I beleive its due to its good location from major roads and the expressway.

I had some maggi goreng which is essentially maggi mee boiled and fried ala mee goreng style. Can't get any simplier than that but I won't do it at home because its just too leche..

It was nice and satisfied any residual hunger I had.

Curry Chicken is not Chicken Curry

Play at words?... Probably not. its definately Chicken curry and Curried Chicken. Curry is a must learn for the aspiring student cook because its relatively easy, its yummy, it reminds you of home and makes a good potluck item. Of course there are different types of curries. Even the Malaysian ones are different from the Singaporean versions. Really? yup!.

Curry is quite a big thing in UK mainly because of the huge population of Northern Indians. In fact, Glasgow used to be the curry capital of UK . LOL!.. More suprisingly, the city has even tried to stake its claim on being the first to invent chicken tikka masala

Here's the list of ingredients

2 Packs chicken (6 drums or thighs in each) on sale so 1.50pds / pack
Onions
Mushrooms 50pc
Peppers 60pc
Potatos on sale 30pc
Tomato 60pc
Tumeric Powder
Patak's Curry paste 1.50pds / bottle
Can Coconut milk 1.00pds

Firstly, Marinate the chicken in tumeric powder and some salt. Heat up some cooking oil fry the onions till brown and add the chicken to give it a good sear to seal in the flavour of the tumeric into the skin. Add in Patak Curry paste and coconut milk. I used about 1 and a half bottles of paste for the amount of chicken cooked. Add in an equal number of bottles of water. Throw in the remaining veg and potatos. Bring to a boil and simmer for 30-45 mins.

Serve with rice or bread

*Top Tip: Curry taste better after an overnight's rest.

Let me know if you have got any good cooking curry tips!

Lagsane

I first discovered this dish in a Garfield book. Didnt know what it was then. I knew it contained cheese and because it was placed in a cat dish i thought it was just some special cat food. Fortuantely, pizza hut came along haha and the concept of eating pasta in layers intermittently smeered with a tomato and cream bolognaise sauce became more comprehendable.

C is our resident lagsane cook. I have never cooked a lagsane because I find it too much of a hassle for me . The truth is I am too lazy to layered it when i can just cooked pasta and pour sauce over it. This time around, C used lamb and mutton as the meat which was a nice change away from the usual beef and pork based sauces. I was too full from eating a mcchicken burger and double cheese burger that I managed only 2 servings of it.

Here's another shot showing the multilayering of the lagsane. Bon appetite!!.

Dinner with Aa at Ashoka

Its nice having a flatmate who's working and likes to blanjah me. Maybe its because C is gone and I am his proxy "girlfriend" haha. Anyway, Aa's got a 50% off voucher that we decided should be put to good use before it went to waste.

We had some poppadums aka indian keropok with some onion chutney paired with a mayo-red sauce concoction. That was followed by a starter platter for 2 which was basically a munchie box rearranged on a plate. The good thing is the items are all perfectly fried . The down side is they were regular items except for a couple of lamb kebabish.

We order this amazing lamb curry. It was the typical lamb curry sauce taste but felt more robust in texture. The meat was tender and peeled easily off the bone. It was spicey but not unbearable for me to not like it.

In addition, we ordered some naans to go with the rest of the meat dishes. The last dish here is a tandoori platter consisting of chicken parts, lamb and 1 single prawn!!!!. Can u believe it 1 Single tandoori prawn bUT that single prawn turned out to the best item for the night. It reminded me of BBQ prawns but with the tandoori flavour coated over it. It was quite pathetic though and Aa and I ended up sharing half a mozzel each lol.

Dilly's Curry

Dil invited a huge group of us for dinner tonight. He made 3 awesome dishes 1 pork curry (remember the funny podcast), 1 chicken curry (featured) and 1 mix vegetable curry.
You could taste the difference and tell that it wasn't North Indian nor Singaporish.. WEll done Dil.

He has so kindly given me a list of the ingredients for the southern chicken curry haha but of course the quantity remains a closely guarded Peiris Secret.

*masala, curry powder, ginger garlic onions tomatoes coriander cumin chillies tumeric lemon grass youghurt, milk
