Brauhaus, United Square

First impression as you walk down to the basement amphitheatre styled beer garden was WOW... how did this place even exist. Its got the I made a discovery factor. Met up with J and Mr W after raffles city for more food, abit of boozze and some more catch up.

The selection of beer here is huge but looking at the prices were painful for my eyes because I will be back in beer drinking land in last than 48 hours and seriously, anything with alcohol is going to be cheap in Euro.. hahaha at least 95% of it la lol.

I had dinner already so I took nibbles out of everything. Roast pork knucles are synonymous with German booze. The skin was slightly burnt and dry the meat was also dry but everything was sovled after soaking it in the gravy. NOt bad la.

Fried beehoon? This is what differentiates a German German beer place from a Singaporean Beer place. haha you get local food. The beehoon was good. but i think my mum can whipped up a better one. haha.. A bit of biasness there I am sure you will all defend your mum's beehoon to a certain extent.

I was super knackered by the end... but the company was great.

A nice meal from C

This is definately a unique sauce from Prima Taste. I heard of this method of using laksa paste to cook fried a while back so I was quite fired up to find out how tasty this dish can get.

There you go!. The paste as a nice brownish colour to the rice, top with it up with some crabsticks (yes you do get crab sticks in supermarkets here) and you get a nice plate of uniquely singaporean laksa fried rice. I must say the fragrance of the paste did more than enough to whet my appetite. The taste itself was like laksa with the full aroma of laksa leaves lingering on with each mouthful sans the "jelat" (cloying) taste of excess coconut milk that you get with some laksa noodles.

We had a bowl of egg drop soup as well haha. SOmething i never get at home because most soups are freshly cooked. Egg drop soup is basically a simple mixture of a premix with water and of course the egg drop.

On top of all that, some stir fry honey spare ribs. Totally sticky and yummy but boy was it a pain to wash up the pan after. lol

Thanks C

Canned Pork!!!

The Water fairy brand of canned pork product is a favourite in my family. I thought it would be nice to bring a can of it back to Glasgow when I came back this time around for Aa to have a taste. Oddly, Aa tells me that he eats cans of Ma Ling brand can pork when he was in primary school.. Yikes

Anyway, it was a late dinner for him and realising that there wasn't any food in the house he decided to open this can of oily goodness. Its by no means a kurobota pork but the flavourful stew mixture that it was cooked in sure brought back some old memories of childhood lunch time.

I didnt manage to get a snap shot of the finished dish which was basically garlic fried with the pork oil and then stir fried with chopped pork and some po chai (mustard greens?) yup. Smelt really good but when I finally went to see it, the dish has already gone into Aa's stomach.
