LIck, Tanjong Katong

I m slowly conquering all the home-made ice cream palours in Singapore. So far, I've been to Udders and Ice cream chefs. Both are good !!!..

Lp brought me to this place along Tanjong Katong Road (YES! another East venue. Easties are cool ppl.. because we eat alot of ice cream and crack lotsa cold jokes -__- ||| )

The shop is situated opposite the old TKSS along a row of many eateries. Quite difficult to notice.

There were hardly any people there on a week day afternoon at 2pm. Besides students from the nearby Chung Cheng high main and Chung Cheng high main, it was just us haha. Seeing them makes me feel old but it does bring back lotsa good playful memories of those after school days. PIty we only had macdonalds soft serve ice cream in those days and the good ol' ice kachang

Back to the ice cream, 2 scoops and a waffle for 10 dollars. Quite reasonable la. Waffle was the soggy type versus the crispy versions with a less doughy texture compared to udders.
From left to right, Watermelon flavour. REFRESHINGLY GOOD. like eating the real McCoy with more sweetness and watermelonliness. Artificial flavouring? The purple looking scoop is neither yam nor grape. It is lavender honey. Yup.. ahha its probably the closest to eating a flower hahaha. It didnt taste weird though. Quite pleasant. kinda thought I was eating a scented candle at one point haha * yes u get the idea.
Next up was chendol. I din't really manage to taste much flavour from this scoop. The dark scoop next to it is hershey's chocolate.

If you don't like waffles too sweet or if you prefer to taste more of the ice cream flavour, remind them not to drench the waffles with maple syrup when u order.

OH just to add, they do special offers as well. like on Tuesday's there s half price waffles (*copycat ? ahha) and on some other day there's free toppings and on FRIDAYS ICE CREAM BUFFET !!!!... Thnk its something like 14 dollars for free flow ice cream and waffles for 2 hours.. WAH SHUANG TO THE MAX !!!!.

Happy Valentine's Day my Beloved Chicken Rice

Ok... this is getting boring for you guys hahaha... BUT I REALLY want to say I REAALLY REALLLY REALLY LIKE CHICKEN RICE!!!!!!.

Ironically... haha my first time eating Boon Tong Kee... It used to be so overly priced that I much prefer settling for the humble chicken rice store uncle. Not alot of difference also lor.... Sometimes even more tasty (*ok.. Singlish not lost haha)

I did like the chicken, found the rice abit dry but very fragrant and the chilli a tad too spicy for my pleasure

The rest of the dishes were pretty good. Crispy skin tofu FTW.

Can't believe I ordered S&SP haha. NO regrets. Meaty, Good amount of flour, right amount of tang and none of that Vinegarish stuff from Glasgow.. opps hahaha

Lastly, spinach with 3 eggs. Simply delicious

Lazyman Sambal Kangkong

Yes.. I am lazy... but I can't help it.. I m so busy at work..

I was intrigued by this sauce packet when C flashed it in front of me. Haha it was advertised as a sauce mix for fried rice but at the bottom right u can vaguely see that it can also be used as a sambal kangkong stir fry too.. Amazing...

It does fare well on the taste front...and I got a good kick out of frying it in my new gigantic stir fry wok that mom bought for me.

The only issue I have was that the vegetables cooled so quickly that it lost its flavour soon after reaching the table.. Haiz..

Do I care? nah..... Jia pui Oh!

Claypot Pig Trotters

I bought A CLAYPOTTT !!!...

It was sooo cheap man... 5 pounds for a large 30cm diameter earthern ware....

Anyway... I bought it sometime ago and haven't had a chance to use it..but before using it.... apparently you have to soak it in water so that when you heat it up, it reduces the chances of it cracking,

So.. I made pig trotters.. extremely easy dish to do... dump 2 pig hough, 10 cloves of garlic, 1 ginger, 1 star anaise, 1 clove, 4 measures of premium dark soy sauce. handful of rock sugar and cover with water. I boiled it for 1 hour in a pot before transferring it over to the claypot to simmer.

OInk~

Seafood Hut

Clockwise from Top left: Cereal Prawns, Black Pepper Crab,
Seafood special stew, spinach with 3 eggs in superior stock,
Bee Hoon Crab, Bai ling Gu with Greens, Special sauce pork ribs

This is officially the most expensive meal that I paid for in my life.

Then again, there were 22 other family members who were there to share in the feast.

Felt good that I could share my hard earn first pay cheque with everyone else.

LOL

Udders, Siglap

Udders from Ice cream to take away the terrible terrible heat in Singapore...
Here's my rum and raisin and green tea ice cream.. UDDer Yummy.
though a wee bit pricey varying between 3 dollars to 5 dollars for a scoope.

Had at least 15 flavours to choose from including their famous Mao shan wang (yucks lol)

WT went for their waffles and chocolate with orange. Good stuff.. Especially love the waffles. Air light crispiness on the outside and a bread like texture on the inside.

Wah ... Bliss...

Tea Dot, Tampines OnE

Met up with LP for a catch up... We were supposed to chow on the mango desserts downstairs but the severe lack of sitting area was a big shoo shoo. They seriously need to expand man..

Eventually, we settled at tea dot. I had the matcha gravity. TASSSTEEE GOOOOD. Like a ice cold green tea latte.
I do like my milk thicker and my green tea stronger.. (double shot thank u ).

What's Cooking ?

This table set up is always a sign that we are having some sort of porridge. Most of the time.... Fish porridge... but my mum decided to try something different that and made porridge that day... Must have gotten some inspiration from this Teochew pork porridge that we ate at a Cantonese restaurant lolol...

.... Din't manage to take nice pictures of the porridge.... it tasted pretty good.. Almost like the restaurant... The fish was an accompaniment. They probably felt left out for not being included in the porridge..

Crashing the party were some flower crabs..... These crabs are the first choice amongst the many many crabs that we choose to eat.... The whole family seem to agree that this is much sweeter than the all too common mud crab.

So..... are you a mud crab lover or a flower crab lover ??

PS: Works started and I've been extremely busy..... The photos have been piling up and up and up... Havent got time to edit them and post them.... much less finding time to have a nice meal outside.... Works starting to get better this week.. Fingers and toes cross..... I might be able to squeeze more time out to do some blogging..... I really miss... blogging....

Chilli Lobster

Some like Chilli crab others like pepper crab..... But.... has anyone tried Chilli Lobster .. hehehe...Bet u haven't right?..... Considering the exorbitant prices that you pay for lobster in many seafood restaurants, it may seem like a waste to do it chilli crab style... ... To be honest I don't really know how they do it now adays... BBQ? Sashimi? Superior chicken stock braised?

So ... how does it taste??..... Slightly better than I had expected? I wouldn't say it was on par with chilli crab.

I actually do like black pepper sauce better than chilli sauce... wonder if that made a difference...

Nevertheless.. The entire plate was devoured by mum and I... heh...

Bah Kut Teh @ Owen Road

Dad wanted to eat BKT and he particularly likes this place along Owen Road called Ah Heng Bah Kut Teh. Apparently, most BKT stores don't open on monday because there's no pork but Ah Heng is different and chooses to capitalise on this day. Wonder where he gets his pork from though lol.

Here's the Bah kut teh in a claypot. Not many places use claypot nowadays ya... and look ... canned mushrooms. The pork wasn't as good as expected today. Could it be because he got it from a different supplier on MOndays?. Anyway the ribs were chopped up and not in its curvy entity... Guess it makes for easier eating also but takes away the joy of chewing away the meat from the ribs like eating a drum stick.

Braised Pig Trotters (BPT) seem to pair along well with BKT. The other dish that goes with BKT is pig organ soup but we din order that today lol. It would probably have been consumed by my dad only. Anyway the BPT was fantastic. It got a good bath in a really fragrant garlic soy sauce broth. I thought it was better than the BKT lolol.

Preserved vegetables and you tiao make good accompaniments too. The you tiao was unfortunately almost finished before the soup even arrived lol. Guess we were quite hungry .

One thing that's unique about this place is that they offer a variety of steamed fish. I think that's one of the draw of this old institution. Its bound to attract lots of Teochew Ah hias to come and patronise the store la. We had half a red snapper head. The fish was very fresh but the natural taste of this fish ain't as sweet as some of the other species. At least it was fresh and once u pair it with some fermented bean sauce, it will be fine on the taste buds.

What is Bah Kut Teh without the Teh. lol.. We don't see many places offering self brewed chinese tea nowadays. So to find one here certainly brings back some authentic feel to how folks use to eat BKT. The boss has quite a few varieties of tea to choose from. You can even bring your own tea and leave it at the store if you come here often enough.

Firstly. wash the tea and soak it to soften it.

Pour away the first brew

Enjoy. Any guess why you put the toothpick in the spout?

Not a cheap meal but bao jia!...

Cheap and Satisfying @ Bedok 85

Bedok is kinda my 地盤 as I spent a significant portion of my life schooling here. There's always something nostalgic about coming back to this part of the country especially at night for supper !!!... What I really like about Bedok 85 are the prices and the variety of supper snacks/dishes. The prices haven't risen as much as alot of other places and that is a good thing but I can't say so much about preservation of taste.

Bah Chor Mee comes in 2 versions in Singapore. The dry version doused in a chilli and vinegar sauce or the rich soupy version. Bedok has apparently 10 soupy Bah chor mee stalls and I know only 5 of them. Wonder where the other 5 are located. Anyway, I don know what went wrong with the uncle or auntie today. She over-boiled the noodles and it was rather soggy. At least the broth was still quite umami.

Ah BBQ Chicken Wings... OK the flavours quite standard nowadays but who cares, everyone enjoys BBQ chicken wings yea. Its great for sharing too. Good time to show your generosity ;)

Fried Carrot Cake!!!. . So simple yet so tasty. I'll say again. The carrot here is white radish not your red carrot used in English Carrot cake.

Finally... Ah ball ling... Ah You can get these glutinous dumplings in Glasgow but the peanut soup is going to be tricky lol.. The green Ah ball lings are a new addition. Its green tea flavoured glutinous skin with a green tea flavour bean paste within. Quite yummy.

I ate 80% of these (ho ho ho.. *clutch my belly) and the total cost was only $$10 inclusive of a refreshing sugar cane juice. That's like 5 pounds... In Singlish....."where to find... you tell me??"

Procrastination with Kway Chap

I was contemplating a morning run yesterday after realising how I have been so nua over the last few months. Despite feeling rather tired, I went for a short run and some static exercises. That's the healthy bit until I decided to have Kway chap for Breakfast lolol.. My only saving grace was me telling Auntie not to give me the pig Skin!... *oink

Kway chap. BBCs.. is a platter of mix pork meat, innards, soy products and egg all stewed in a savory soy, cinnamon broth. This is often eaten with Kway teow (flat rice noodles) or rice along with lime chilli sauce as a dip. See ... we do have our form of haggis here as well.

For me, I tend to skip the innards lol. Never really had an affinity for them. More palatable items include the stewed pork, tofu, tao pok and egg oh yum yum.. I used to bite off the top bits of fat on the pork as a child cos I thought of them as being really unhealthy lol.. Nowadays lolol Its a different story but I do eat in moderation.

Crabs @ Eng Seng

Meeting at 5 for dinner would be too early for most people but when you want to eat crab at Eng Seng, you better turn up early or endure the painful wait of watching the early birds prey on the crab delicacies. That or risk the sheer pain of having no crab to eat at all.

So the "meet the friend" session began at 5 with the legendary Lady General taking orders from us. Frankly, I din't know she had that notorious until I read some other reviews and blogs online. She must be in a good mood that day.

We ordered 5 crabs: 3 done with black pepper sauce and 2 chilli crab style. You get a choice of small or big crab but the LG quickly recommended the smaller ones. The black pepper crab proved to be a hit with my taste buds. Don't know what she did with the sauce but it was smooth and peppery unlike the one which I made earlier which felt a bit more grainy. I wonder if any dark sweet soy sauce went into this dish because the sauce mixture does look quite black.

Here's the chilli crab version. My conclusion after the multiple crab eating sessions is that pepper crab trounces chilli crab. Sweet and savoury still dosen't work for me. This was still good nevertheless. Oh Auntie had no mantou but she has bread lol.. Nah... let's pass on that

Bo cai or chinese spinach. This dish came first but got neglected once the crab appeared lol.

House special youtiao. Not bad but nothing to rave about. Look at the liquidity of the salad cream.

Finally some mee goreng to supplement the meal. Quite good leh. Reminds me of my primary school mee goreng with the touch of a wok hei WOK.. lol

I drove past the place at 10 in the evening and it was already close. So... make sure make sure you come early for your crabs. You won't regret it. Head to this for desserts later.

Dinner at the Zi Char Stall.

We went to the zi char store outside my place for dinner.. I think I was more looking forward to sleeping than eating but hey lol.. you've got to eat right lol.. We ordered mud crab with bee hoon. Not bad la. The sauce has got a wine taste and the flavours of the fried shallots

Seafood roll. Their Speciality dish.

Pork ribs with yam... Fails....

Tau kee with kailan.. Ok la..

Hot plate tofu.

This is part one lol.. met up with TIDC for supper after that lol.
