Fukuichi Dining @ Triple One Summerset

I rant alot about not getting good quality Japanese food in Glasgow but its TRUEEEEE.
and it dosen't help when I gorge myself with Jap food when I come back home.
No sushi Teh this time.

We decided to rev up the standards and landed up in Fukuichi. From what I can see on their webpage, there's lots of press review on their use of premium quality sashimi.
KC said that it was located at 311, behind 313 shopping centre.... -__- dont be a kuku like me and take it for real. Fukuichi is located at Triple One Summerset which is indeed behind 313

016-3

A familiar starter of spider roll, where the umami flavours of deep fried soft shell crab and simply addictive japanese mayo sets you whetting for more

008

Tempura is always nice. I just wished I brought my own giant prawns. I'll pay for shelling if there's such a thing.

011

A simple yet sophisticated order of soba noodles ordered by the pilot who might be turning to selling beancurd very soon. lol

005

There were so many other items that I would have love to try but honestly there were better ways to splurge my CNY angpow money.
Eventually, I settled on the beef hotpot. I paid S$28 for this . Wasnt even sure whats the market rate but when i saw the marbling on the beef, I din care a damm.
The meat was so delicate it was almost friable, too much marbling ?
My pot was filled with so much vegetables that I had to chow down some of it before I could indulge in my sweet sweet beef. and ooo it was GOOODDDD.....!!!

012

Raw sashimi with rice anyone?

Great place for Jap food and certainly in a great location away from the crowd.

Nobu - London Musing 3

The final post in my London trip brings us to another Michelin star restaurant in the very posh area of Park Lane. For those monopoly geeks, Park lane is the blue purple slot worth 350 pounds with hotels charging you up to 1750 pounds.

WY & I went for the Chef's tasting menu. 7 courses over 2 hours

169-2

First up was salmon tartare with cavier accompanied by a soy based sauce. Very palatable. Didn't expect the pairing of these 2 items to go so well.
However, the sauce proved to be abit too salty after a few mouth fulls.

182-2

This dish reminded me of a salad with a shallot soy dressing. Ok... nothing very wow.

188-2

I was extremely eager about the hot main dishes and when this miso cod came totally didnt disappoint.

193-3

Hot plate beef with very very salty sukiyaki. At least the flavours of the beef was good

201-2

To finish off, a plate of nigri and some rows.

207

Dessert was a tiramisu ice cream type dessert. Very very nice but when u serve it in a macchiato cup, its never going to be enough.

The 7th dish was a pathetic miso soup.

I am abit lost for words after sampling 2 Michelin star restaurants.
They were both good but neither blew me away.

p.s quick post. been extremely busyy .. EXTREMELY...

Icecream @ Ootoya, Central

The first time I was here. I had a really nice grilled fish lunch set and an ice cream dessert. This time, I was just back for dessert. Been craving for green tea ice cream and azuki beans. Yum yum yum...

EN Dining, UE Square

Shg's the man when it comes to "atas" dining. Afterall, he's the lawyer/social animal who frequently does these sort of fine dining. I was given a choice of Jap or Italian and went with the former as I don have this habit of eating Italian back home.

He recommended En Dining which offers mainly sushi and sashimi dishes. It serves mainly food from the Okinawa prefecture which has influence from Taiwan and the US, due to its proximity to its neighbour and the US military presence in that region.

Anyhow, they were offering a 50% discount on the sushi and sashimi menu between 6pm - 8pm.

Fish anyone?? I find the calamsi quite extraordinary

My sushi platter. Fish was fresh and extremely delicate. Yum yum. The wasabi was wah... IMBa.. I think i overdosed on it.

Wafu Beef. I couldn't find anything called Wafu beef. Its not wagyu issit? The closest I got was wafu dressing which was a vinaigrette-type salad dressing based on soy sauce, rice vinegar and vegetable oil.

Wudon on Great Western Road

Jni gave us a big treat on Saturday at Wudon on Great Western Road. I've passed by the store many many times but every single time it just gets sweep to the back of my head. Frankly, I have been spoiled by much nicer Japanese food in Singapore but you do find the occasional Japanese restaurant here with some specialty dishes.

As I was googling for pictures, I stumbled upon this Timesonline review of the place. Oh boy, they really beat the udon out of this restaurant. It wasn't as bad as they mentioned and dinner for two with wine at 45 pounds??? Er.... R u Sure?

Anyway, I'll let you judge for yourself.

Sushi to share (clockwise from yellow egg): Tamago Nigiri, Inari Kani Mayo Nigiri, Kappa Makki, Tori Katsu Maki (Chicken), Ramen Tempura Maki, California Maki, Sweetcorn Mayo Gunkan, Eoi Kimchi Gunkan

Unagi Kappa: Eel and Cucumber rolled in Fish Roe

Saw Choi War Teeps: Crispy Dumplings of Veggies

Yeap Lam Goong: Vermicelli Noodles with Chinese Veggies wrapped in Pastry served with a light vinaigrette.

Pork Katsu Ga Lay Fun: Pork Cutlet Curry Rice. I had this and it satisfied me. Would have prefered a spicier and smokey curry for my Asian tastebuds and a few pieces of potatos and carrots to complete the curry but I am sure it will suit the locals fine. Veggies are well appreciated.

Teppanyaki Chicken with Garlic Fried Rice. Seriously Good according to Dil

Sweet Chilli Chicken: Deep fried chicken pieces coated in sweet chilli sauce.

Man Yu Fan: Two layers of teriyaki Eel between a bed of boiled Rice.

Everyone Enjoyed their meals.

Teriyaki Chicken Drums

Yum yum. Chicken drumsticks are one of those meats that I enjoy eating. So fun to eat and so delicious as well. Aa and C went "pa tohing" so I ended up eating on my own ... haha its ok that means more for me.

Ingredients
----------------
6 Chicken drums
Kikomann Teriyaki Marinate
Sesame seed oil
Sugar
Garlic mince

Just mix all the above items together and let it marinate for an hour or overnight if you can afford the time. Basically, just pour enough teriyaki marinate to coat them through once. drizzle the oil over the chicken. Sugar gives it a nice caramalised flavour. garlic provides a nice fragrance and burnt touch. rotate them so that the marinate is evenly distributed. bake in the oven for 25 mins at 180 degrees celcius.

*I ended up eating all six myself haha. it was good... Burp!

Sushi Tei, Tampines One

Sushi Tei again but this time at the newly opened Tampines One shopping mall. The restaurant has 2 floors of sitting with a nice view of tampines on the upper floor. The deco was in typical chic Modern Japanese styling with a super powerful aircon (brr.. freezing)

We tried a Dai Dai roll which consisted of salmon, fish roll and crabstick? . Weirdly, it tasted like a mexican chicken sandwichfrom Glasgow.

The girls had a portion of salmon sashimi. I din't try but it should be good.

and they had deep fried squid as well. I wonder where's the Japanese mayo?

On top of that a vegetable tempura. I like the way the golden mushroons were fanned out before being deep fried.

I had a jumbo chicken yakitori. It was jumbo in size but really lacking in taste and texture. Super dry and tough. Wasn't what i was expecting from what looks like thigh meat. Tori Q is still the way to go. Conclusion, don't order this

Otoro belly soup? or was it just fish meat soup. Tian was keen on soup so she had this for herself.

I had a ebi and egg rice set. Actually I just wanted some rice with sauteed onions and egg in a gooey Jap sauce. The prawns were alrite but not fantastic. Soggy in fact after immersing in the sauce. Maybe they should put lay the prawns on a seperate plate the next time.

Sushi Tei, Paragon

Japanese food makes good food photography. Everything is so well crafted and placed to perfection. The myriad of colours help to provide a nice warm feel to the picture too. Met up with the 46sers for a reunion meal. Ask the SIngaporean guys and they will tell you conversations with their army buddies can be one of the most enjoyable things to do. It dosen't how many times the same stories are repeated, the humour just never wanes.

Ok anyway, KC had the sushi set above. If you like one of everything then thats a simple one to start off. I thought the set was pretty cheap compaired to UK but u know when u are in SIngapore earning in Sing Dollars then its a different story.

Next up TW's curry chicken katsu. Don't know how it taste but definately smelt good.

My first course was a chatsu ramen which was lovely. Sushi Tei may not be the pros at doing ramen but I am easily satisfied after being deprived of good Jap food for so long. THe noodles could have been a bit more chewy and maybe 2 more slices of pork would have made it the right man-sized portion.

My 2nd course was an oyakudon. Din't get a picture of it because I was too hungry and totally forgotten about it.

Shang's beef sukiyaki. I might try this the next time when i return to Sushi Tei. I wonder when :( Downside to this dish is that it dosen't come with rice. And you know me.. I eat lots of rice... (reminds me of see woo and the ripping rice haha)

They call this the phoenix roll. A tempura prawn with rice rolled over it topped with aavacado. This type of sushi roll seems to be gaining popularity here. (also one of my to eat list at sushi tei the next time)

KC's Eel set. This dish seems quite wu hua ( worthwhile). 5 different ways of serving the eel allows for 5 different ways of eating them.

Post dinner drinks at starbucks. Green tea frappacinno. Nice creamy and vanillaish but not green teaish enough.

Aa's Jap Meal

My mouse has broken down. Hence the lack of post recently. Well things are back to order again so here comes the food. Aa made this unusual japanese salad to go with his soba. In it was some silken tofu, bonito flakes, seaweed and polish cured ham?? Er.. ok don't ask me how it taste but I assumed it would have been quite salty.

Here's my flatmate for you .

Guo Tie Japanese Style

You probably would not be able to make out this dish from the picture and that's because Aa decided to overload the Guo Ties aka dumplings with bonito flakes. Yes.. you must be wondering guotie with bonitos no ginger no dark vinegar? and with mayo ?

Yup.. that's our style of eating guotie in this flat. I believe this dish is a creation by Aa and C. C's the resident guotie chef in the flat, the one person who has got the technique all right from the pan frying to the steaming. What you get is a nice crispy base and a succulent juicy meat filling oo yummy.

Somehow this conocotion probably derived from the tako pachi concept works really well. So well that it has become a lunctime favourite to pair with myojo mee or indo mee..

Gosh.. I am feeling hungry now..

Ingredients
------------------
Pork Guo Tie's 40 pieces for 6.95 approx
kewpee japanese mayo
bonito flakes

Heat a non-stick frying pan (strongly recommend investing in a good teflon pan) with oil in it. Pan fry one side of the guotie from frozen. Once its nicely brown. Add a suitable amount of water and cover with a lid. Steam until all the water has evaporated. Squeeze over the mayo and garnish with bonito flakes.
Unfortunately, I do not have the exact measurements and timings. According to C its all about agaration.

* Bonito flakes = flakes of dried, smoked bonito fish
* http://www.japancentre.com/ --> They do delivery for only 5 pounds.

Teritayaki Fish

First made this in 2nd year for a couple of friends that came over for dinner.
Its simple to make and taste great as well.
Just combine some brown sugar, dark soy sauce, mirin, terriyaki sauce for the marinate. Throw in some chop garlic.
Marinate for at least an hour
Throw into the oven 200 degrees for approx 30 mins.

*Salmon is quite resistant to heat and drying out. Don't worry if you've let it in the over for too long.
