Tungsista4's Graduation Meal
We celebrated Tungsista4's graduation with a meal at the Grill on the corner. The place was furnished with a chic modern look for lots of dinning area and an adjoining bar area. The group of us were entitled to a long high table in a private corner.
Fish and Chips with some mushy peas on the side.
Chicken Fajitas with onions peppers and sides.
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Chocolate Tarte tatin?
The meal was good and the 40% discount made it all the merrier. I just wished they grilled the steak according to our preferences. It was slightly overdone and luckily I anticipated that and went for a lower degree of doness.
Thank you to TUng1 for buying the meal.

Steam Boat at the Tung's
Finally got to visit the Tung Castle. The name itself suggest it all. 3 storeys of ample floor space for 2 families and many many rooms. I told the sisters it must be a great place to play catching and they looked at me and said " Do you mean hide and seek?" . Same same la..
So the main dish of the day is ........ Steam boat or Dai bin lou. I know how to pronouce it but don know what it means. The stock was a simple chicken and pork rib version wtih lots of daikon in it.
The aunties and uncles made wantons and bought a huge box of noodles from the chinese super market. It was wanton noodle galore and i couldn't stop stuffing myself with the wantons. They were good !!!
This is perhaps the most intersting sauce which consisted of one raw egg, some chilli sauce, spring onions and a dash of soy sauce.
Mix it all up and this is what you get. I din't sample any of it :( Guess its my phobia of eating raw eggs. I think it must have tasted really good cos the sisters were slurping it up with their meats.
Here's the freshly made fish paste. Not too sure what type of fish went into it but it sure tasted fishy. Slightly under salted but at least I got to taste the genuine fish taste.
Everyone was really suprised when I started taking pictures of the watermelons. This I can explain... I never buy watermelons in Glasgow. Too expensive for such a small fruits and I am bound to get them in Singapore at a fraction of the cost. haha which was why when the fruit came out I ate like 4 slices. Yum..
After the fruits came the tang yuan. Reminds me of the ones that Grandma used to make only difference is that they din colour it red.
And just when we were about to leave, Tungsista 2 brought some Krispy Kremes from London.. Super full man..
Thanks again for the Invite !!!

Dinner from the Tungs
A while ago, I treated the 2 sisters to a dinner at my place. So here's part 2 where they made me dinner.
I simply love dinners at my friend's place because its so unpredictable what you can get. You can get chinese and western dishes together which you think might clash but actually works really well together. SOmetimes, there's just too much vege and no meat and other times there's like one main dish and tonnes of desserts. The Tung sisters are local Chinese born and breed here whose mum is a chinese takeaway tychoon (I think lol). Unfortunately, I was told by the eldest not to expect any cuisine haha.
So for starters/appetiser, TungSister1 made a mackeral salad consisting of smoked mackeral, lettuce, potatos, olives and tomatos. It was rather fishy but the salad helped to balance out the taste and I thought it worked really really well.
We weren't heading for a western menu tonight because.... Tungsister4 made curry. Now... the curry is definately local in looks but modified to suit the local chinese taste. It didn't taste Indian or Singapore in flavour but more like a really savoury salty Jap curry. This is good and I suspect it was Auntie ML who taught her how to do it.
The last dish was a Beehoon that consisted of peppers, sausages and carrots. Interesting.. I guess everyone has their own style of beehoon . It was very well season and although the ingredients used were not typically what you find in chinese style beehoon, the beehoon tasted familliar.
I couldnt find a dish that stood out on its own but when you mix abit of everything together, everything was made right. A great sister act..

Oh ... this is good quality stuff made by Auntie ML. Its XO sauce made up of spring onions, dried shrimps, dried scallops and... hmm... I don know what else and it tasted so so so so goooooood.
Dessert was a lemon meringue pie from M and S. There were also chocolates, jaffa cakes, jelly and ice cream
