Breakfast This morning

Char kway or fried carrot cake is another of my favourite breakfast dishes. Good for one or to share with some folks. My ideal carrot cake should have "kueh"pieces apprxoimately 1 by 1.5 by 2cm. pan frieded to give a good browning, well seasoned with salt and chai po (preserved radish), nice oily eggs with crispy edges and some spring onions. A few prawns will definately bring up the ante but I hardly see these nowadays.

What I had today had a good carrot cake taste but was a wee bit salty. THe eggs however failed to impress and overall I felt it was really oily.

For 2 dollars, aiya nevermind la. lol

1 packet of carrot wasnt going to fill me satisfactory so i bought a plain waffle pancake from the bakery nearby. yum yum I like it plain so that i can taste more of the orignal taste. This one was good but cant be compared to ten twenty years ago. Oh and it was cheap too . ONLY 1 Sing Dollar!!!.

Home Cook Tuesday

Tonight's meal was pretty simple actually but good nonetheless. First up Sliced pork with light soy sauce. Meat was a wee bit tough but my hunger overcomes anything

Ok.. some fresh steam fish again. Fish is quinessential for meals in the family. Not sure what this one is called. The skin was peeled off before consumption.

Lastly, xiao bai cai with oyster sauce fish cake and mushroom. Actually fish cake is quite a rarity in Glasgow. I am more used to the soft texture here as compared to the rubbery ones in Glasgow.

Was supposed to post this entry last night but fatigue drew me to bed. I am still officially jet lag. sianess. lol.. Hopefully it will be gone soon .

Should I get a 7D? lol

Lunch at Imperial Kitchen Nan Bei

Lunch was at Imperial Nan Bei Restaurant in Tampines one. We had xiao long bao. Good !.

Prawns were crunchy and sweet.

Carrot Cake. One of my favourite items. The ones in Glasgow are quite similar

ZHa Jiang Mian. Feels very roughened. I am sure this dish can be refined further. Still can eat and tasted good also

You JI Mien. Mum's Choice

Sis wanted two plates. I thought it was 2 pieces. They tasted good and the crust was baked well.

J CO DOnuTs!

Most Singaporeans should be familliar with this company of donuts. I think most would agree once u have had krispy kreme everything else dosent matter. Well I guess that's kinda true.

but then again... does krispy kreme make green tea donuts and oreo typhoon? Probably not lol..
I bought 12 pieces for 11.50. there s a promotion at the moment for 2 dozen. Also, they do a box of 24 minis. Quite pretty but I'll probably pay more for the dozen big ones.

Monday Dinner at Home

This is the reason why I don't seem to go ga ga over BBQ sting ray in outside food centres. The freshness of stingray straight from the beach is unbeatable and the meat is impeccably sweet. Also, mum tends to cook it in a nice savoury soy sauce broth with ginger. It almost taste like sea chicken but with the nice smooth texture of stingray. Erm... Do the BBCs know what stingray is?

Soup is on 99% of the time but I am a poor soup drinker lol. I prefer paddling my rice.
Today we had Lotus and pork soup.

Finally, more veggies.

The hands that you see are my Ah kong's. Those are the very hands that have been bringing back fresh fish and crustaceans from the sea. I'll do another post on that some other day.

Time to sleep...... 530am.. Singapore Time. UK.. 930pm.. -_-"

Simpang Yong Tau Hu

Lunchtime was a toss up between teochew porridge and yong tow hu. YTH won the fight. Works fine for me since both were a win-win situation. If I had a choice choosing between aircon or non-aircon, I think the decision would have been more obvious. Thank Goodnes, my beloved Teh Peng was there to save me from the sweltering heat. Its brown patches of grass over most places btw..,

Moving on. Yong Tow Hu for 4 people. I had noodle so did sis. Mum and Dad had rice. There were over 20 variety of yong tau hu. We randomly choosed some and ask the owner to add in a bit more here and there. DOn't forget the veges. YUMYUMYUM.

There was a uniqueness about the YTH in that most of them were handmade. Overall the impression was a good one. Too many to comment on lol but my favourite were the Tofu with fish paste, ngor hiang and fish ball. Ieat as a more indept review.

This was the unusual dish. Which other YTH stall sells pork knuckle??... It was ok la but tasted slightly better for me since my tastebuds were hyperactive anyway. The skin was not as crispy as keropok and the meat was a little dry. Somehow I wished there was some sauekraut instead of the sweet chilli sauce to go wtih the pork lOL..

Economical Bee Hoon! not your business class fare.

Economical Bee Hoon is a common sight in many coffee shops and standalone shops that are sprouting out under MRT stations nowadays. I can't help thinking about the beehoon and gooey egg along with the luncheon meat as I went to bed the night before, despite having had some MPT.

I decided to try a different store this time around because the other store's lady overcharges me everytime. LOL.. I am kidding, its probably because I was greedy and ordered too much and hence the hefty price.

Well... this packet of beehoon mixed with guotiao plus 2 eggs, cabbage and 1 half slice of luncheon meat cost me 2.90. What do you think? Cheap or expensive?

Wasn't the most superb packet that I have eaten but it was sufficient to satisfy my early morning hunger pangs.

Ba Chor MEe Pok Tar! Mai Te Gua!

I purposely used a complex name to differentiate out this favourite Singaporean Dish from the soupy version which I hope to be eating soon.

Ba Chor referes to mince pork
Ba as in "baa baa" black sheep,
Chor = mince. "Chor"izio .
Mee = noodle. "Me" as in I.
Pok = Flat. "Po" from kungfu panda.
Tar = Dry
Mai = Don want, "MaiKE" prounced Mike with the prolounged MAI
Te = Pig. as in "the" prounced wrongly.
Gua = Liver.

In summary..... Mince pork with Flat noodles without Pig liver.

Most importantly, this dish is uniquely Singaporean. I mean how do you find such a nice dish in UK that is only 1.50 pounds, tasty, wholesome and AVAILBLE AT 2am!!!!!

Punggol Nasi Lemak's Chicken Wing

Met up with the TIDC gang for supper at Punggol Nasi Lemak. I thought I will be going for a round 2 after dinner but found out that the guys just wanted to eat some wings and leave for S5*s place for some mahjong action.

I was being greedy again so I had a piece of chicken wing, an otak and one of those fried ebi tempura. THe chicken wing was chickenlicious man. Tasted like the malay versions with a Long John silver type coating with all the crumbly bits and a juicy meat that peels easily of the bone. PLUS ! it was made fresh. I wish I ordered some rice and some chilli .. ahh.. regret. The otak was nice too. The ebi was forgettable.
