Crown Cavery, Leven Valley

Today..... I shall introduce you to the Crown Cavery!!!.. Yup where you get cuts of meat and an endless flow of vegetables. All for 5.25 pounds plus a drinK!!!!. Ok the foods not awesome wow wow wow but you do get alot of fibre and a nice portion of meat for the amount you pay.

Yorkshire Puddings and Stuffings.. Puddings gd Stuffings dry..

You get to choose whether u want a portion of each cut or u can have just one meat and they will give u abit more of it. Aa said he wanted a bit of everything... I thought the clever thing to say would be I want alot of everything. lol.. In the end, I decided I should mask my kiasu kiasee kiakun attitude and go for "I would like a portion of everything."

The first meat was gammon ham. This was probably the best meat of the 3 as it had a nice fat content which helped to lubricate the dryness of the over roasted meat.

Turkey BreaST was dry. End of story

Beef was not too bad. Just wish they gave a bit more

Finally, Top up your plate with as much veg as you want. YOu can even go for a refill of vegs but not the meat.

Here's my plate overloaded with veg and potatos. I went back for a second portion of veg and couldn't do it anymore after.

Its not too bad la and you can take a nice wee trip just out of Glasgow to the drumchapel area. There's a huge Sainsbury nearby for shopping if you are keen.

Economical Pasta

I have written about Spagh BoLg Previously but this post is about recapping on the ingredients that I use. MOre importantly, how cost effective it can be !!!

Here We go!!!!

One of the best tips is to buy things in bulk when they are on offer. I recall in 1st year, Aa bought like 10 packets of spaghetti. I really thought he was crazy considering I was buying like 2 packets??..... Noob Moment.....

Ingredients
-------------------------
Buitoni 2 packets for 89p
Dolmino Sauce 2 bottles for 2.50pds
Mince Pork 2.00pds ( I prefer pork to beef. Mixing the two together is quite nice too)
4 Tomatos 50p
Mushroom 50p
Onion 20p
Bertoli Tomato Pesto 2 bottle for 2 pds
Herbs mix. (one off price of 1 pd)

Total Cost: 45p +1.25pds + 2pds + 50p + 50p + 20p + 25p = 5.15pds (round off to 6pds la ah)

All these ingredients were used to make a huge pan of sauce which allowed me to have one good meal after cooking and separate the remaining sauce into 3 portions. Each portion was good for about 150g of pasta (which I think is more than enough for the average eater. its about 2 plates for me)

Work out the math and each meal's about 1.50pd and u save time as well because all u have to do is reheat the sauce and boil the pasta

Off to bed.... Zzz...

My Economical Rice

Man.... I was stalked by YR on Byres road today lOL!... nah... she just happened to be walking behind me and noticed I was peering into every shop on my way home.... I was hungry la!!!....and I wanted to see if there was something cheap and convenient that I could DA bao home.... Sadly no.... I wasn't willing to pay 5 quid for Chinese takeaway this evening.....

Passed by Iceland (supermarket not the volcano nation) and decided I should wonder in to find some meat.. No prizes for what I bought in the end lol...... 6 drumsticks for 2 quid and pack of mix veg for 1 quid... Total 3 Quid.... Not bad leh... lol

Din't take me long for me to whip up this chicken and vegetable dish. Half an hour maybe plus Rice... I am btw an expert chicken deboner (lOL!.... ... I no shy LOL!)))

I like this dish because if u do it well, u can extract the natural sweetness of the carrots, cauliflower and broccoli to create a nice sauce with the chicken.

For the marinate, I used sesame seed oil, light soya sauce and oyster sauce. agar urself the amount you want to use. best to marinate chicken for at least 30mins.

30 mins + 3quid

=

2 meals + 30mins cooking time from the 2nd meal + 7 quid ( (5-3.5)*2 = 7 )

SAVED!!!

Makes sense? or Cents??

Back to 4 Seasons

Yupz its back to 4 seasons. Been having a craving for Chinese food since I got back from ITaly. Must be the pasta overdose.

I had XO sauce Udon. I noticed a quite a good amount of cuttle fish, scallops and prawns. Did I charm the lady boss too much? loL!.....Pretty nice dish but it was a tad oily... ... I was kinda struggling to finish my portion towards the end but managed to gobble up the last few udon. Worth a Try.

Jne had Portugese Sauce Baked Rice. The last time I had a pork baked rice here, it was too salty. Had a wee spoonful and found it to be surprisingly palatable.

Finally, a plate of soft shell crab to share. Nice but too expensive la for 2 tiny wee crab (7pds) LOL!.... Jne noted that it was meatier than it's Crispy Crispy Singapore cousin

Feeling hungry again..... sians LOL!...

Root Beer Float !!!

This is truly a classic man. Remember the good ol'days of A & W and their famous root beer float served in a chilled mug!!!... Gone are the days when you can sample this simple yet awesome beverage.

I think you'll still be able to buy A & W root beer cans in Singapore or a substitute like Mug. Then again would you bother to make urself a mug to drink when there's so many other yummy stuff in Singapore waiting to be eaten???

Unfortunately for homesick ppl like us in the UK, we just have to make things from scratch. What's more unfortunate is that its extremely difficult to find root beer here....... I once bought a 1.5L bottle of A & W root beer from a Chinese super market which cost maybe 3 pounds... That is ex btw for a bottle of fizzy drink. Ironically, it was made in SINGAPORE LOL!!!!!.. The problem now is that they don't stock the drink.

Hey hey guess what... my dear flatmate Aa actually managed to find out who sells root beer through a ROOT BEER FORUM!!!!... -_-"" almost fell of my chair when I heard that LOL!.. Turns out that Asda sells Carter Root beer. Aa being Aa decided he should buy 18 cans of it. (6 cans for 1.5 pounds)

Oo.... yum yum scoop up some nice creamy and rice vanilla ice cream.

Watch the magic....Its always fascinating.. seeing the bubbles form.

Apparently its not your classic bicarb + Co2 reaction that gives rise to the bubbles but rather a chemical process called nucleation!!! ZUN BO???!!!!

Almost at the top and half a can of root beer still left....

We are officially a ROOT BEER LOVING FLAT!!!!!!!!
